Quality, Community & Exploration
Located in the Green Gables neighborhood of Phoenix, the property we now call home at Wren House sat unoccupied and disused for decades. We fell in love with its character, rebuilt the old guest house and garage in the backyard into our brewhouse, and converted the main 1920s bungalow house into our cozy taproom.
In the brewhouse, we focus on quality and explore a wide range of brewing techniques and styles. Led by head brewer Preston Thoeny, our brewers integrate international beer styles with Arizona character to craft beers that satiate and challenge the senses.
We believe in the power of craft beer to bring people together, and our taproom reflects this - we offer a simple space with music but no TV to gather with friends or meet a new neighbor over a beer. While we focus on the beer we encourage you to bring in take-out or have food delivered if you would like to pair a meal with our offerings.
Local Love: Wren House Brewery
If in Phoenix for Brewers spring training (they play in the city’s Maryvale neighborhood), Wren House is a must. Operating in a circa 1922 house with hardwood floors and subway-tile backsplash, the former Westward Brewery is devoted to stretching the boundaries of experimentation by scouring the globe for recipes. Ethiopian coffee beans fuel its Jomax oatmeal stout, while Celtic sea salt freshens up its Lady Banks gose. There’s also a beer brewed with desert honey, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, and chocolate wheat (Chai Jolly), plenty of west- and east-coast IPAs and big imperials, and an active barrel program. Tons of variety.
This homegrown brewery emerged from homegrown Arizona natives who happen to be passionate about their community – and their craft beer. Wren House’s owners say they find inspiration both locally and internationally and strive to make their beer the best. Other craft beer lovers are making return engagements to this Phoenix brewery that leans toward minimalist and hipster-ish in its decor. What Wren House lacks in food offerings (no eats on the menu), it appears to make up for in custom flavored brews with a Chocolate Cherry Stout, Ginger Pale Ale and a Wild Rice Vienna Lager among the beers on tap.
Wren House Brewing has emerged as one of the best breweries in metro Phoenix, young or old. The 24th Street taproom seems to wipe the stresses from life, leaving you in a space that has a residential vibe, like a cool friend’s lake house where people bullshit and share pictures and drink good beer.
In this episode I sit down with Drew and the ever-elusive Preston from Wren House Brewing Company. I profess my love for their beer and we talk about stuff. Enjoy the show

Thanks to KJZZ for talking with us about our participation in the Arizona Pure Water Brew Challenge! Listen to the interview with head brewer Preston Thoeny...
Wren House is a proud participant of the Arizona Pure Water Brew Challenge created by Pima County's Southwest Water Campus. This innovative project helps us all become more comfortable with the amazing technologies that enable recycled water reuse in drinking water applications and ensure a sustainable water supply for the arid southwest. We brewed "Hydrologic Pale Ale" as tribute to this cause and entered into the competition. Come try it while it lasts in the taproom!
Wren House is proud to be a member of Audubon Arizona's Western Rivers Action Network.
